Lisa Hermatz is a member of the American Sign Language Teachers Association
and has taught college-level ASL for 20+ years. A "freeway professor" currently teaching at L.A. Pierce College, Glendale Community College, College of the Canyons and CSUN. Outside of the education system, she has done ASL translation work for several projects, including DawnSignPress’ Once Upon a Sign video-series and for Deaf West Theatre, where she has also done thespian work. Her passion lies within translating lyrical works into the beauty of ASL, what she likes to call "creating visual music" and enjoys working as a consultant for those who venture into this genre of entertainment. She recently served on the board of the national Deaf Women United, and is a co-founder of KODAWest, a non-profit organization for children with Deaf parents. She received her BA in Deaf Studies/ASL Literature from CSUN and her Master's from Gallaudet University’s Master's in Sign Language Education program (MASLED).
